The world is changing before our eyes. Unleashing broadcast, and the new generation of multicast tools, is vital to tapping into the exponential growth in the connected car and IoT markets. The way content is consumed and shared has already changed dramatically. To deliver content how, when and where people want to consume it, reinvention of your delivery methods is essential to keep pace with increasing expectations and demands. Learn how flat panel satellite antennas are making the most profound communications tools as easy to use as delivering a pizza.  Get an eye-opening view of the world of communications, including insights into LEO satellite constellations, where the connected car and IoT markets are really headed, and how delivering piping hot content will get easier and faster.

Mobile Satellite Connectivity

At few points in history have the tea leaves of mobile connectivity been more difficult to read. HTS & traditional satellite internet providers potentially face significant competition from new constellations offering wider coverage and comparable connectivity. What role could “mothership” type satellites play in terms of constellation management? Ground equipment is facing similar disruption with the seemingly near term introduction of flat panel antennas. What does the future of mobile connectivity hold? How will satellite be an integral component of the 5G and terrestrial wireless world of the future? What does the broadband connection of tomorrow look like?

Moderator: Catherine Melquist, President Mobile Satellite Users Association
Speaker: Dr. Kambiz Aghili, CEO, Blue Sky Network
Speaker: Pierre-Jean Beylier, CEO, Speedcast
Speaker: David Bruner, Vice President, VP, World Wide Sales & Marketing, Panasonic Avionics Corporation
Speaker: Joshua Marks, EVP Connectivity, Global Eagle
Speaker: Joel Thompson, Vice President and General Manager – Terrestrial Business Unit, Iridium

MSUA Mobility Forum

8 March 2017

* 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. LEO and MEO Focus: Critical New Developments for Low and Medium Earth-Orbit Services

With 11 new Ku and Ka-band NGSO systems filed at the FCC, how will regulators decide to allocate spectrum? What are the different business models for these systems, and how will operators seek to compete with or complement GEO HTS systems? What role will these systems play in mobility markets on land, at sea and in the air?

* 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In-Flight Connectivity Focus: Service Providers and Airlines - Who Picks up the Tab?

Pilots, cabin crew, airplane systems, maintenance AND passengers all benefit from in-flight connectivity and multiple providers are competing to serve this huge new market opportunity. How do the business models differ between satellite operators, inflight entertainment providers and connectivity service providers? And which business models will dominate in an era of every increasing capacity demands, passenger expectations for high quality, free services and constrained airline investment budgets?

* 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Maritime Focus: Which Technologies will Lead the Way in the New Mobile Maritime Era?

The rivalry between Ku and Ka-band solutions has reached a critical phase with some predicting the shift from L-band to VSAT solutions will accelerate further.  At the same time, new higher throughput L-band capability will soon be reaching market which could cause a reversal in recent L-band price rises. How will different products be positioned and what role will value-added services and antenna innovations play in differentiation between service providers and driving market growth?

* 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m Internet-of-Things Focus: Where Does the Satellite Piece Fit in the Puzzle?

There is a high level of interest amongst terrestrial wireless operators in the IOT/M2M market, and these operators can bring far greater scale and massive investment in technology and system integration. Satellite can provide unrivaled coverage for critical infrastructure needs, but how does satellite become more than just a niche solution in a market with billions of connected devices? Will satellite service providers compete or cooperate with terrestrial wireless operators in this new era? Or will some satellite players even become acquisition targets?
